Check out our new Virginia-specific guide that contains a snapshot of the available programs and funding that serve students with special education, behavioral, and mental health needs.
As the need continues to grow, it’s critical that schools and districts use the full funding and program levers available to them to create a holistic approach to the education of students with special needs and disabilities.
Notably:
- In 2023, Mental Health America ranked Virginia 48th in the nation for youth mental health
- 1 in 5 children have a mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder (CDC)
- 80% of children with mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders do not receive care from a specialized mental health care provider (NIH)
